Peter N :

Stupidly (I know, shoot me) installed a special software toolbar on my pc (thinking it would get me software off the net) and I uninstalled it using Add/Remove function in Windows XP. I have noticed that it still opens up spam windows on my pc when I browse the net. It is most certainly annoying to experience this. I have used Ad-Aware and Spybot but they don’t seem to remove the program. How do I stop this program from hijacking my browser? Thanx!!!

P.S. I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it and I have the same problem.

Run malwarebytes from safe mode.
Then clean the registry.

Sounds like there is something else you need to remove. Go back to Add\Remove programs and look for something thats related to spyware.

First of all open your computer in safe mode with networking. Hit the f8 key as it is starting and select safe mode with networking.

Download malwarebytes antimalware, install it, update it and run it and hopefully it should solve your problem

An alternative program is superantispyware

Sounds like you need tech support – there’s probably one file hidden somewhere on your computer causing this, that your programs can’t find, but maybe an expert would be able to. Google tech support that specializes in spyware or adware problems.

try malarebytes anti-malware and super antispyware , they are the best

Try malwarebytes.org. I generally use that scanner over Spybot these days (though I end up using both for more difficult spyware).

If that doesn’t get rid of it, download Hijackthis and post a log for someone to analyze it. Here’s a good place to go for that stuff:
